Microsoft is making a big change to its Microsoft Office branding. After more than 30 years, Microsoft Office is being renamed "Microsoft 365" to mark the software giant's growing collection of productivity apps. While Office apps like Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint aren't going away, Microsoft will now primarily consider them as part of Microsoft 365 instead of Microsoft Office.
Microsoft has been pushing this new branding for years, after renaming its Office 365 subscription to Microsoft 365 two years ago, but the changes have now gone much deeper. “In the coming months, Office.com, the Office mobile apps, and the Office for Windows apps will become Microsoft 365 apps, with new icons, new looks, and even more features.

That means if you use any of the dedicated Office apps, they'll all soon be branded Microsoft 365 and have a new icon. The design and logo changes will first appear at Office.com in November, followed by the Office apps on Windows, iOS, and Android, all of which are rebranded in January.
Microsoft 365 will now be the home of Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Loop, Clipchamp, Stream, and Microsoft's new Designer app. One central Microsoft 365 app for both mobile and desktop that includes a feed of relevant meetings and colleagues, a hub for all your files and documents, and Custom tagging to group and organize content.
However, the Microsoft Office branding will not disappear immediately. Microsoft will continue to offer a one-time purchase of Office applications to consumers and businesses through Office 2021 and Office LTSC plans. Microsoft Office is now Microsoft's legacy brand, so that means when new features are announced, they'll come to Microsoft 365, not Microsoft Office.
