Microsoft will discontinue the SwiftKey iOS app next week

9/29/2022

Microsoft confirmed that it will be removing SwiftKey from the Apple App Store and ending support for the iOS version of the keyboard app on October 5. It will still be available if you've downloaded SwiftKey on your iPhone, as long as you don't uninstall yourself.

Chris Wolfe, product management manager for SwiftKey, said, “For customers who have SwiftKey installed on iOS, it will continue to work until it is manually uninstalled or the user receives the device. be new. Microsoft will continue to support SwiftKey Android as well as the underlying technology that powers the Windows touch keyboard."

The move to discontinue SwiftKey on iOS comes after months of seemingly unresolved user complaints. On top of that, users noticed that Microsoft hasn't updated the SwiftKey iOS app for over a year, casting doubt on whether the app will be quietly discontinued.

It is not clear why Microsoft decided to discontinue support on the iPhone. SwiftKey has been available on iOS since 2014, two years before Microsoft acquired the app. SwiftKey will remain available and fully supported on Android, and Microsoft continues to roll out regular updates. Last year, SwiftKey brought clipboard syncing on Windows and Android devices using the app but said it "couldn't sync your clips to iOS" at the time.
